Split Ends

Split ends are a common problem that every woman and even men face. Split ends, known as also as trichoptlosis usually occur when the cuticle is damaged and the fibres of the cortex (the inner layer of the hair) are unraveled. Split ends are more likely to develop in long, dry and brittle hair. Once your hair is weakened by coloring, heating, UV damage the cuticles will start to lift, leaving the cortex vulnerable to splitting.

WHAT CAUSES SPLIT ENDS?

  • frequent blow-drying

  • using curling iron

  • using straightening iron

  • vigorous brushing

  • excessive dying the hair

  • not trimming your hair regularly

  • insufficient conditioning

  • excessive heat styling

  • using too much hair coloring products

  • using a wrong hairbrush

  • frequent chemical treatments

  • improper hair care

  • overwashing

How to Choose a Styling Comb, Tail Comb, Wide Tooth Comb or Pick

The application of moisture and heat can make physical changes in the wave pattern of the hair, and many times, by styling the hair immediately following a warm shampooing and conditioning, you will create the desired wave pattern in the hair which will "set" as the hair dries and cools.

Identifying and Selecting Quality Tools Combs

Combs

The easier group of styling tools to categorize and label, because there are so few differences to be found among the different types. You should select combs made from smooth, hard plastic and be sure that there are no sharp edges or seams left by the molding process.

The Styling Comb

Generally six to eight inches in length and has two different sets of teeth on either end. One end will have moderately spaced teeth that are thicker and the other end will feature closely-spaced, fine teeth. The end you use on your hair will depend on your hair's density and texture. The styling comb is best used on hair of average density and texture.

The Tail Comb

Has a combing region of closely-spaced teeth at one end and a long thin "tail-like" handle. The tail is used for separating and sectioning the hair for various styling processes, from roller sets to braiding.

The Wide-Tooth Comb

Comes in a variety of sizes and shapes. It is generally larger than the styling comb and can have teeth that are as much as ¼ to ½ inch apart. In many cases the teeth are wider at the spine of the comb and taper toward the ends to aid in separating the hair. A wide-tooth comb is good for combing through wet hair and for combing dense or curly hair.

The Pick

A variation of the wide-tooth comb, although its teeth may be more closely spaced. The pick is used for detangling and "fluffing" very curly and kinky hair. It can also be useful to separate the curls in hair that has been styled to be curly without causing the hair to frizz.

The size of the comb you choose will depend largely on the length of your hair, its density and texture. A good rule of thumb is to take the comb and insert it into clean, dry hair. The wide tooth comb should pass easily through the hair without any hindrance. For a styling comb, however, you should be able to insert the comb easily into the hair and release it, having the comb stay in place until you move your head, at which point it should fall out easily.

Brushes

There are nearly as many different types of brush as there are types of hair, and there are new designs constantly being developed and introduced. Many of the new styles of brush are created specifically for use with a particular styling technique and may or may not be suited to all hair types.

The Styling Brush

A brush with bristles - either synthetic or natural - and can come in many shapes and sizes. The best styling brushes use natural fiber bristles - usually boar's hair. However, if you choose to use a synthetic bristle brush, be sure to choose one that is well made and will be gentle to your hair and scalp. A good test is to take the brush and run it along the soft inside of your forearm near the bend of your elbow. The bristle should feel smooth, but firm. If the bristles feel scratchy or harsh, then the brush isn't for you. The last thing you want is a brush that is going to leave tiny scratches on your scalp or be harsh to your hair.

HOW TO GET RID OF SPLIT ENDS AND HOW TO TREAT SPLIT ENDS?

There are many ways on how to prevent and treat split ends such as:-

  1. Have your hair trimmed by a hairdresser every five or six weeks. By this way, you will keep the ends neat and prevent further breakage.

  2. Use a conditioner every time you wash your hair to nourish your hair, keep it hydrated and healthy. Apply the conditioner over the entire hair, concentrating on the ends. Look for a moisturizing conditioner containing essential oils and natural ingredients. A good conditioner will feed the roots and repair the structure of the hair. It will leave your strands shiny and manageable and will sooth the hair cuticles.

  3. Use products (shampoos, conditioners, masks, serums, creams, mousses, sprays) designed for treating split ends. These products seal split ends and prevent further splitting. Most of them contain high-density fluids and silicone which draw the splayed ends of the fibres together and hide the appearance of split ends.

  4. Use a mild shampoo that is suitable for your hair. The best choice will be a mild moisturizing shampoo with ceremides and essential oils that will nourish and moisturize your hair deeply. Stay away from harsh shampoos that can leave your hair dry and brittle. Never shampoo your hair every day, even if it is oily.

How To Banish Dry Ends

How to Banish Dry Ends

Do you want to banish the dry ends and brittleness on your hair?

If so, you should read on this simple steps and try it at home.. :D

Things you’ll need:
- A flat brush

-Deep conditioning treatment

-Moisture shampoo

-Fizz fighting cream

-Vitamins

-Aloe treatment

Instructions

Step 1

Firstly, brush your hair gently using a flat brush. However, you have to make sure that you are not over pull or yank your hair because this can damage it greatly. But if you have a knot, you should rub in some silkening gel on to you hair. Then, gently pull apart the knotted locks. In addition, Now, get a trim. This will banish dry ends, and give you healtier hair to work with. Have a masking day. Wear your mask for a couple hours while you do houswork or study. Then, rinse with cool water. This will soften and give your thirsty hair a long drink. Then, add some leave in treatment to the ends. This can stay in all day, giving your hair extra hydration.

Step 2

Protect from the sun.

When going out, the sun can dry out your locks, so rub in a heat protection balm or spray. If you decide to swim, rinse hair with cool tap water to protect from chlorine. Let air dry. Your ends are damaged enough, so let them breathe. This goes for hot irons too. If you have to curl or strauighten, use a special balm. Use a comb sometimes. This can detangle your hair and treat it better than brushes, especially on the tender ends. Don't overwash. Skipping a day or two allows your hair to soak up natural oils which is helpful to your ends.

Step 3

Purchase better products.

If you use a better product, you might get a better result because you will see a difference! Take vitamins. This will help nourish your dry ends as well as make you feel better! Buy an aloe leaf and some vitamin E capsules. Open the capsule and mix with aloe. Rub on ends, leave on and rinse with cold water.

How To Treat Dry Hair Naturally

How to Treat Dry Hair Naturally

Nowadays, dry and damaged hair is a common problem for many people, and lots of them don't want to purchase chemical based hair care to try and moisturize their hair. Below are some tips to moisturize your hair naturally.

Instructions

Step 1

To help moisturize hair, you also need to avoid things that cause dry hair. When washing your hair never use hot water, the colder the water the better it will be for your hair. You also should avoid spending too much time in the sun, as well as being careful with chlorinated pools.

Step 2

Yogurt is a great moisturizer for hair, it makes the perfect hair mask base. Always use plain yogurt that is naturally made, I also suggest using goat milk yogurt instead of cow milk yogurt. Just massage it into your scalp and let sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing out with cold water.

Step 3

Mashed avocado also helps moisturize hair. Just mash it or puree it then massage into your hair. Let it sit for about half an hour then rinse out with cool water.

Step 4

For those that don't mind the smell, mayo has been used for many years to moisturize the hair. Just use about a cup to paint over your hair, and allow to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing out with cold water.

How To Treat Dry and Damage Hair

How to Treat Dry and Damage Hair

Hi everyone… : D …Does your hair is lack of shine and look dull? If so, you may be a victim of dry hair. Dry hair can be hard to style because it was fragile and it was easy to breakage. As the result, you might want to do a hair treatment so that your hair will become undamaged and become shiny. So, this time, I’m going to give some simple steps on how to treat dry and damage hair… Here are the simple tips on how to give your dry, frizzy hair a moisture boost! :D

Step 1
Don't wash your hair every day.

If you wash your hair every day, you'll reduce the natural oils in your hair and as the result; your hair will become dull, dry, and frizzy. So, I advise you to shampoo, at most, every other day.

Step 2
Blow dry your hair as little as possible.

The heat from a hair dryer can make the damage hair become worst because it will become dry and also contribute to split ends. Besides, heat can cause expansion of the hair shaft followed by contraction with cooling. This places a lot of excess stress on the hair, resulting in breakage.
So, to prevent from damage hair, you should tet you hair dry naturally. However, if you are in a hurry and have to use the hair dryer, use the low setting.

Step 3
Don't comb or brush your hair when it's wet.

Dry hair is fragile when it's wet. Combing and brushing while the hair is damp can cause breakage. Let your hair dry naturally before tugging on it with a comb or brush.

Step 4
Use a mild shampoo without a lot of added ingredients.

You should choose an acidic shampoo with a pH in the range of 4.5 to 6.5. You want to avoid shampoos that are alkaline (with a pH above 6.5) since these can promote dryness. The unfortunate fact is shampoos often contain harsh detergents which can completely rob your hair of its natural oils. Many of the so called "additives" such as natural botanicals that sound like they would help dry hair actually have the opposite effect. The best approach is to choose the shampoo with the mildest detergent you can find with added humectants like panthenol which can help to hold water onto the hair shaft to reduce dryness. Don't count on protein additives to restore or rebuild your hair. Hair is dead and can't be rebuilt.

Step 5
Follow up your shampoo with a conditioner.

Again, don't count on a conditioner to rebuild or restore your hair since the hair shaft is dead. Conditioners will coat the hair shaft, thereby giving the hair a moist appearance and make it easier to style.

Step 6
Keep your hair covered when you're out in the elements.

The elements, particularly the sun, can wreck havoc on dry hair. Wear a large brimmed hat or scarf to keep direct sunlight off of your hair, not to mention your face. Don't count on "sun protectants" added to your shampoo. These are usually washed down the drain when you rinse your hair.

Step 7
When you swim, wear a bathing cap.

The chlorine in pools as well as sun exposure can create big problems for dry, frizzy hair. Make sure your hair is well protected.

Step 8
Be sure you're eating a healthy diet.

Two dietary deficiencies that can cause hair breakage and dryness are a diet too low in protein and one that's too low in fat. Keep a journal of what you eat for a week and use an online nutrition calculator to make sure you're getting adequate quantities of both of these important elements.

Step 9
Do a twice weekly scalp massage.

A gentle scalp massage can help to stimulate oil production by the oil glands in the scalp. Be gentle. You don't want to contribute to dry hair damage and breakage.

Step 10
Use a hot oil treatment once a week.

One home remedy for dry hair is a natural hot oil pack. Try heating a bowl of olive oil in the microwave until it's warm. Let it set for a few minutes and then apply to hair from ends to just below the top of the scalp. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and rinse. Shampoo with a mild formula designed for dry hair.

Step 11
Avoid using hair dyes and bleach.

Bleach is a particular problem for dry hair. One bleach job may be all your dry hair needs to experience extensive breakage. Use a natural substance like henna to add some highlights to your hair.
